You upload the PDF you already have. Pilou reads it into a structured profile: experience, education, skills, links, preferences. You spend a few minutes correcting what it got wrong and adding the things a CV never contains, like your notice period and what you want to be paid.

Day one · your first application

Install the extension, open a posting

On any job page, Pilou tells you how well you match and where the gaps are. Ask it for a tailored CV and cover letter for that role and they're ready in under a minute. Open the application form, and it fills in, field by field, while you watch. You read it, you fix anything you'd say differently, and you press submit yourself.

The first one is the strange one. It takes two minutes and you keep checking it for mistakes.

Applying is no longer the expensive part, so you stop rationing it. You apply to the role that asks for five years when you have two. Your tracker fills with companies, scores and statuses, and for the first time you can see your own search laid out in front of you.

The replies start, and you're ready for them

An interview lands. You open the tracker, see the exact resume they read, and rehearse against questions built from that posting. Meanwhile the skill panel has been quietly counting: the same two gaps keep appearing across every role you want, and now you know which one to spend a weekend on.

Is this lying on my behalf?
No, and it's the constraint everything else is built around. Pilou answers from your profile, from something truthfully derived from it, or from a safe default. A required field it genuinely can't answer is handed back to you asunanswered, never filled with a plausible guess. Tailoring a resume reorders and rephrases your own facts: it never adds a skill, a job, or a year you didn't give it.
Will it submit an application without me?
Never. There is no submit path in the code, not even behind a flag. Pilou fills the form, clicks Next between the pages of a multi-step wizard, and stops. The last click is always yours, which also means you always see what's being sent.
Will a recruiter notice it was AI-written?
That's the right thing to worry about. Every document goes through a check for the vocabulary, sentence shapes and paragraph symmetry that make text read as machine-written, and it's checked against ahuman reader, not an AI detector. Detectors flag non-native English writers at a 61.3% false-positive rate, so optimizing for them would make the writing worse, not better. You also read and edit everything before it goes out.
Which portals does it work on?
Any of them. There is not a single line of per-site code in Pilou: no Lever handler, no Workday handler. It reads the page structure and maps fields to your profile, which is why it works on Lever, Greenhouse, Workday, LinkedIn Easy Apply, Taleo, iCIMS, and the custom form some company's engineer wrote in 2014. Portals behind a login work too, inside your own already-logged-in browser tab.
What happens to my data?
Your profile is yours: it exists so the forms can be filled and the documents written, and it isn't sold or handed to recruiters. The extension asks for the narrowest browser permissions that let it read and fill the page you're on. Nothing is posted anywhere on your behalf, which follows from the fact that it can't submit.
I'm not technical. Can I still use it?
Yes. There's a web app and a Chrome extension. You upload a PDF, check what it read, and from then on it's a button on job pages. The command line exists for people who want it and is entirely optional.
What does it cost?
Nothing right now. Pilou is inbetaand access is free, but signup is closed: you need an invite code.Answer the nine beta questionsand the code is on the last screen, plus in your inbox. It only works with the address you gave, so I'm keeping the group small enough to actually answer people.
Does it apply to jobs for me, automatically?
No, and that's deliberate. Pilou finds postings, scores them and prepares everything, but a human decides which roles are worth applying to and a human presses submit. Mass-blasting applications is how you get ignored by forty companies at once.
It's a beta. What if it breaks?
Some forms will have a widget nobody has seen before. When Pilou can't fill something it says so and leaves it to you, so the failure mode is a field you type yourself, not a wrong answer sent to a company. Tell me and it usually gets fixed that week: right now it's me on the other end.
Why should I trust the person who built this?
You don't have to take my word for the problem: I spent three years applying to remote roles and built the first version of this for myself because I was tired of retyping the same form. I used it during my own search, and I landed the job. That story is below, and the same rules I'd want as a candidate are the ones enforced in the code.

Where I do most of my applying and now most of my building.

Why I built this

I chased a remote job for three years. I used this same tool to finally land it.

For three years I dreamed about working from anywhere, and spent more evenings than I want to admit re-typing the same details into the same forms.

So partway through the search I built the first rough version ofPiloufor myself: something that filled the forms, kept every application straight, and told me where I was weak before an interview did. No team, no investors, just a script that had to work because I needed it to.

I used it to apply everywhere, including into roles that asked for five years of experience when I had one. I landed my dream job as a lead full-stack developer at a French agency: running the whole stack, shipping to production, owning the thing end to end. The tool didn't get me the job. Showing up and being ready for the interview did. But it's the reason I could apply relentlessly without burning out on the busywork.

Now I'm turning that same tool into something anyone can use: the autofill, the tailored resume, the tracker, the interview practice and the skill-gap read that got me here. It's early, and it's honest by design: it never invents a thing about you. If it helps one more person land the job they've been circling, it did its job.
